About Shinmai Kumo
Shinmai Kumo is the second restaurant from the Shinmai team in Cary, opening with a soft launch in early September 2025. Our menu centers on Itameshi (γ€γΏγ‘γ·) β a style of cooking that originated in Japan, blending Japanese ingredients, techniques, and sensibilities with Italian cuisine. The result is thoughtful, playful dishes that feel both familiar and new.
Following the success of Shinmai Shokudo, our first location in Cary, Shinmai Kumo continues our commitment to craft, hospitality, and bringing people together around the table β this time with a fresh perspective where Japanese and Italian traditions meet.

Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. My husband and I are long time fans of Shinmai Shokudo, so when we heard that there was a sister location- Shinmai Kumo, we knew we had to give it a try! We started off with the Korokke- wolfed those down so sorry thereβs no pic. But they are so creamy and pillowy while having a perfectly crispy exterior! The hubs and I split the Sukiyaki Linguini and the Curry Flatbread- it was so nice they gave us tongs to divvy everything out! This combo is so good together! These are true fusion dishes. The curry flatbread had lightly crunchy bottom, a silky and flavorful curry as the sauce, blistered tomatoes, and a cheese that had some great stringy pull- yum! The linguini was a nice chewy al dente with a giggly, jammy onsen egg that marries the sweet sukiyaki sauce to the dish. A mild Parmesan paired with the beef is also a great combo! They also have this really fun passport encouraging guests to try different beverages, lunches, and meals! We are definitely coming back for the egg sandos, some omurice, and the seasonal gnocchi special! Very excited to put this in our restaurant rotation!

I love the Japanese and Italian fusion vibe of this place. Itβs a cozy relaxed cafe atmosphere. I tried their egg salad sando, which was very fluffy! They get their break from a local Japanese baker (Yukiya Bakery) who sells her bread at local farmers markets on the weekends. Definitely recommend trying Shinmai Kumo out

Miss Diamond with Offline - I appreciated the attentive and professional service from the greeting to taking our order. Very clean and comfy aesthetic. We ordered huge spread to get a taste of a variety of things off the menu. We were very pleased. They had omurice and the sweet toasted sandwiches with whipped cream inside. Fried oysters with a savory mayo sauce. There was still so much to try so we'll be back again. Lovely experience.

I walked into Shinmai Kumo fully prepared to fight for my life in a parking lot Hunger Games situation. Cars everywhere, glowing reviews, the whole βthis must be the spotβ energy. And yet, somehow, I glided right in and got seated immediately. Either I nailed the timing, or the universe decided to give me false hope. The menu is ambitious. It reads like Italy and Japan met, had a whirlwind romance, and decided to co parent a very trendy, slightly confused child. To be fair, everything sounds incredible, like the kind of place where you convince yourself you are about to have a life changing meal. I started with the Prosciutto Salad, which taste wise absolutely delivered. Fresh, balanced, that nice salty sweet thing going on with the burrata playing peacemaker. Unfortunately, the portion was so small I am pretty sure I finished it during a single thoughtful pause. Delicious, yes. Worth the price, only if you enjoy paying entrΓ©e money for what amounts to a teaser trailer. For the main event, I ordered the omurice. Maybe the TikTok has ruined me, but I was expecting that dramatic silky egg split moment, the one that makes you feel like you are witnessing culinary art. Instead, I go

I love the other sister restaurant, Shinmai Shokudo, so I was excited to try this Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant. Food was great! We ordered the special appetizer they had and it was a smokey salmon and cream cheese and it was delicious. For our entrees, we tried the Chicken Curry Flatbread and the Unagi Avocado Flatbread and we enjoyed both! They were both pretty decently sized and I was able to take home half of my entree for leftovers the next day. Service was great and they seemed to take great care in making our drinks! Will definitely be back to try other items!
